Vers Lalique

Vers Lalique

There is a cemetery nearby and I often wander there. I have noticed how the cut flowers that sustain a lot of rain become translucent, almost frosted glass-like in appearance. I have tried to recreate that here - a state that we don't often see but that hints at the almost nothingness of things we perceive as solid.

When I lived in Paris, I had the good fortune to see a Lalique exhibition at Palais Luxembourg. It brought me to tears and I had to return to it a week later to try to understand what had moved me to that extent. I think it was the truth of it. He recreated nature's bounty in a most natural way, with all of its imperfections and lopsidedness. I constantly strive to find this sweet spot.
